Diving in Samui

With its diversity and numerous world class dive sites the picturesque island of Koh Samui is already a diving Mecca. Its greatest advantage is that diving in Koh Samui is always natural and undisturbed allowing you to dive all year round without any distortion.

The Gulf of Thailand is surrounded by the shores of its South East Asian neighbors. This area is sheltered from the major oceans which give most of the region its appealing calm waters, mild winds and tropical warm weather. The major dive sites around Koh Samui are easily accessible and there are many dive sites convenient for all levels of diving from beginners to the most advanced. Many pelagic fish such as barracuda and tuna and the majestic whale sharks frequently visit the area. There are also massive volcanic rock formations and an abundance of colorful soft and hard corals.

The water temperature is also very appealing for divers, ranging between 27 °C and 30 °C ( 81 °F and 86 °F) and visibility varies between 5 - 40 metres (16 - 131 feet) depending on time of the year.

Diving around Koh Samui is possible all year but periods for the best visibility are between May and August, which is when the Andaman coast has the lowest tides and swells. September to November bring the Northeast monsoon winds and surface swells to the islands, this results in a reduction of visibility by about 30% but even though the weather can be unpredictable at times its very rare that a dive tour is cancelled due to bad weather.
