Lying just southeast of Koh Nang Yuan, one kilometer from Sairee Beach off Koh Tao, lies a spectacular dive site known as Nang Yuan Pinnacle. Its Thai name is Hin Daeng (Red Rock) which is a cylindrical rock often dived by spiraling down and enjoying all its brilliant soft coral, marine life and rich coral formations. Its eastern side drops down from the surface to a depth of 21 meters. A large crevice can be found halfway at 15 meters which is filled with coral trout, soldier fish and pink whip rays. It is a like a mini version of world class dive spots such as Sail Rock and nearby Twins. Its western side is a bit less steep where a cave can be reached after swimming across a small canyon. It is actually more a large overhang or swim through which has entries and exits at several depths. Luminous sun light enters the cave through the small cracks in the ceiling which create a surreal atmosphere. Nudibranches, cowries and sweet lip can be found in the more secluded corners of the cave.
Granite boulders, rock formations, coral heads and marine life are exceptionally vibrant and healthy in this area. Larger pelagic are less frequently seen though and visibilities can drop to five meters at times, but normally this area hosts some excellent diving and snorkeling. Expect to see species such as long fin banner fish, titan triggerfish and moray eels.
